Containers, Kubernetes, and OpenShift opens with in-depth coverage of container concepts, operations, images, and image construction across five hands-on days. Students work hands-on with the Docker container engine, the Docker client, and CLI commands. They also work through the full Docker image creation process, including the entire range of Dockerfile instructions and their use.
The course then moves into a detailed examination of container orchestration using Kubernetes and OpenShift. Attendees examine Kubernetes architecture, including the control plane components: the API server, Scheduler, and Controller Manager. They also study the worker node agents, Kubelet and Kube Proxy, and their roles in cluster operations. They also cover pods and pod management, spec writing and authoring, and general Kubernetes best practices through lecture and hands-on lab exercises.
Attendees also explore OpenShift core concepts and automation. The course covers automated application builds, container image storage and distribution, and application deployment triggers in depth. This lets students leverage these powerful features in their own environments. It then completes with a look at the practical aspects of container orchestration, including service operations, networking, state management, security, and observability.
Attendees leave with a clear understanding of how development, test, and production settings use containers. They gain the skills and information needed to immediately integrate container technology and orchestration platforms into their own development and deployment processes.
