Developing Kafka Applications with Java and Spring Boot is an intensive, two-day, hands-on course designed to help developers master the essential coding and architecture skills necessary to build stream processing applications in Apache Kafka. The course covers the key concepts and techniques necessary to build scalable and resilient Kafka producers, consumers, stream processors, and connectors.

Along the way, attendees become familiar with core Kafka cluster functions, Spring Boot, and general tools and techniques for processing streams in Java. Hands-on labs provide practical experience in which students install, configure, and run their own Kafka system for experimentation and development. The course also covers common Kafka development use cases and best practices. Attendees leave with a clear understanding of stream programming in Java, Spring Boot, and Apache Kafka, along with the practical skills necessary for developing sophisticated Kafka applications.

What Attendees Will Learn

This intensive, hands-on course is designed to provide developers with an in-depth look at developing stream processing applications for Kafka using Spring Boot. Learning modules include:

  • Spring Boot, microservices, and application configuration
  • Java lambda expressions and the Java Stream API
  • Application development in Kafka
  • Building producers and consumers with Protobuf (GPB) serdes
  • Building Kafka Streams API applications
  • Tuning Kafka applications for scale and performance

Prerequisites

Each attendee will require the ability to SSH to a cloud-hosted VM (provided with the course). Basic Linux command line skills and programming experience in the relevant language are also required.

Delivery

Available for Instructor-Led (ILT) in-person/onsite training or Virtual Instructor-Led training (VILT) delivery.

Each attendee will require the ability to ssh into a cloud hosted virtual machine (provided with the course). In environments where SSH is not possible, local lab VMs or browser accessible lab systems can be provided. For web-based delivery, participants require an Internet-connected computer capable of teleconferencing.
