Flink for Operators takes platform operators deep into the essentials of running Apache Flink in production, across two intensive, hands-on days. The course starts with a general overview of Flink’s components and concepts, then moves into the different deployment modes: Application, Per-Job, and Session. Day two covers the external resources and systems Flink can integrate with, along with high availability configuration for more complex deployments. It closes with monitoring and securing a production Flink platform.
The Apache Flink Overview module lays out the JobManager and TaskManager architecture that every deployment mode builds on. Attendees then compare the three ways to run Flink in production. Application Mode packages the job and cluster together for isolated, single-job deployments. Per-Job Mode spins up a dedicated cluster for each submitted job. Session Mode runs a long-lived cluster that accepts multiple jobs, trading isolation for resource efficiency. Working through all three modes hands-on helps attendees pick the right pattern for their own environment. This beats defaulting to whatever a tutorial happened to use.
Day two starts with System Integrations, covering how Flink connects to Kafka, object storage, and external databases in a typical production pipeline. High Availability follows, showing operators how to configure standby JobManagers and checkpoint storage. This ensures a single node failure does not take down a running job. The Metrics, Monitoring, and API module teaches attendees to expose and consume operational data through Flink’s REST API and metrics reporters. Security closes the course, covering the authentication, authorization, and encryption settings needed to run Flink safely inside an enterprise network.
