Model Context Protocol (MCP) Apps Development spends one hands-on day building interactive application experiences on top of the protocol. The morning opens with an overview of how app views differ from plain text, Markdown, structured data, and RAG output. It also surveys common use cases: dashboards, forms, review flows, media, maps, reports, and operational tools. Attendees also examine host compatibility, lifecycle, and trust boundaries that shape production adoption. They then map a use case of their own to the tools, resources, views, and host responsibilities involved.

From there, the class builds app tools and resources directly. Attendees design tools that return structured, app-capable results and serve resources with the metadata and content types a host expects. Participants connect app views to tool outputs, resources, and prompts, and handle refresh, state, errors, loading states, and partial data along the way. A packaging module shows how to bundle app code, assets, schemas, and the server implementation for repeatable reuse.

The afternoon turns to the app bridge and interaction design: bridge APIs and message flow. Attendees also learn to call tools from an app view to pull fresh server results. They design forms, filters, drilldowns, visualizations, and action review screens. They keep users oriented with context, status, permissions, and provenance, and add human-in-the-loop confirmation for writes and other side effects.

The day closes with security, testing, and production readiness. Topics include sandboxing, content security, and permission boundaries, along with defending against prompt injection, data leakage, and confused deputy risks. Attendees also practice debugging rendering, bridge communication, and tool calls, before a final lab hardens a working app for production use.

Who Should Attend

Developers, data engineers, AI/platform engineers, UX engineers, architects, and technical leads

What Attendees Will Learn

Upon completing Model Context Protocol (MCP) Apps Development, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how MCP Apps extend Model Context Protocol with interactive user interfaces
  • Design MCP tools that return app views, structured data, and user-facing results
  • Build app resources that render safely inside MCP hosts and communicate through the app bridge
  • Connect MCP Apps to server-side tools, resources, prompts, and fresh result updates
  • Apply UX, security, permission, and sandboxing practices for interactive agent experiences
  • Package, test, debug, and evaluate MCP Apps for real-world AI workflows

Prerequisites

Participants should have programming experience, preferably with JavaScript or TypeScript, and basic familiarity with MCP concepts such as clients, servers, tools, resources, and prompts. Experience with web UI development is helpful but not required.

Delivery

Available for Instructor-Led (ILT) in-person/onsite training or Virtual Instructor-Led training (VILT) delivery.

Each attendee will require the ability to ssh into a cloud hosted virtual machine (provided with the course). In environments where SSH is not possible, local lab VMs or browser accessible lab systems can be provided. For web-based delivery, participants require an Internet-connected computer capable of teleconferencing.
