Linux, Containers, and Kubernetes takes technology professionals through a five-day, hands-on introduction to Linux, containers, and container orchestration with Kubernetes. The course begins with the Linux operating system and the features most used in cloud native environments, then moves into container concepts, container operations, images, and image registries.
After containers, the course turns to orchestration. Attendees examine Kubernetes architecture, including control plane components, worker node agents, and their roles in cluster operations. They work with Pods and controllers, then move into Services, DNS, load balancing, and software-defined networking, along with troubleshooting workloads and cluster components. The course finishes with Helm, the package manager for Kubernetes.
Hands-on labs reinforce best practices throughout. In the Linux modules, attendees work with file permissions, hard and soft links, and the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard, then apply shell variables, redirects, and pipelines in a mini-project. The container modules dig into image layering and metadata, along with registries, repositories, and tags. On the orchestration side, attendees stand up and operate an etcd cluster, including backup, restore, and adding or removing members, then build Pods with InitContainers, EphemeralContainers, and resource limits. Controller labs cover rolling updates and health checks, Services labs compare ClusterIP, NodePort, and LoadBalancer types, and Ingress labs secure routes with TLS. The final modules configure CNI-based networking, debug CoreDNS, troubleshoot workloads with kubectl, and package a sample application with a Helm chart.
