Docker Advanced picks up where Docker Foundation leaves off across two intensive, hands-on days. Day one starts with a review of Docker architecture and its relationship to the Open Container Initiative (OCI). It then moves into extending the platform through logging, auth, volume, and network plugins. Attendees apply cgroups to constrain container resources, then work directly with Docker APIs and events. They also study the container state machine that tracks a container from creation through removal.
Day two turns to networking, security, and orchestration. Advanced Docker networking covers container networking internals and multi-host networking, and attendees also learn to provision hosts with Docker Machine. The course revisits Docker Compose for defining multi-container applications, then closes with Docker Swarm, the orchestration system built into Docker 1.12 and later. Attendees deploy and manage a small swarm cluster hands-on.
Throughout, attendees examine the platform’s architecture at the runC, containerd, and engine levels. They also study the broader microservice ecosystem and how containers relate to the OCI standards. Each module ends with a lab that challenges attendees to experiment and build a deeper understanding of how the system works under the hood. System designers and architects leave with the skills to use the best features of containers while avoiding common pitfalls. They finish ready to integrate containers into sophisticated enterprise environments and CI/CD pipelines.
