Docker Orchestration with Compose and Swarm splits into two focused days: multi-container configuration with Compose, then production-grade orchestration with Swarm. Day one covers the full Compose DSL, giving attendees hands-on practice with every container configuration option Compose offers. Attendees also weigh Compose’s strengths and weaknesses in production, including how it works alongside Docker Swarm and Docker Stacks.
Day two builds a complete picture of container orchestration with Swarm. Attendees look at cluster architecture and node types, and see how managers and workers coordinate using the Raft and Gossip protocols. Labs dig into Docker stacks, services, and tasks, plus the experimental Distributed Application Bundle (DAB) image format. Students explore replicated and global service modes, scaling, task states, the built-in routing mesh, service discovery, and failover. By the end of this intensive, hands-on course, attendees understand both Compose and Swarm well enough to put them to work right away.
The Compose Overview module covers installation and a first Compose YAML file, then students explore the CLI commands used to bring services up and down. The DSL Part I and Part II modules dig into service definitions, image builds, volumes, and networks, leading into a Compose in Production module on building larger, multi-service applications. Swarm Overview covers manager and worker setup, Swarm Services drills into scaling and deployment, Swarm Networking works through the routing mesh, and Swarm in Production closes the course with techniques for larger clusters.
Who Should Attend
Developers, IT and QA Staff, Technical Managers, DevOps and Build personnel
What Attendees Will Learn
Upon completing Docker Orchestration with Compose and Swarm, attendees will be able to:
- Install Compose and write Compose YAML files
- Define services, images, builds, volumes, and networks in the Compose DSL
- Apply Compose in production, including integration with Swarm and Stacks
- Explain Docker Swarm architecture, managers, and worker nodes
- Deploy and scale Swarm services and tasks
- Configure Swarm multihost networking and the routing mesh
- Apply Swarm in production, including building larger clusters
Prerequisites
Docker Foundation or equivalent experience.
