Ceph in the Cloud is a 20-module course that takes attendees from basic Ceph cluster operations to practical implementation with OpenStack and Kubernetes. Each module is followed by a hands-on lab, so students work with real systems throughout and build practical skills as they go. Day one focuses on building, using, and managing a basic Ceph storage cluster. Day two introduces container technology and Kubernetes, culminating in a lab that runs a containerized Ceph cluster. Day three brings in Helm and closes with an OpenStack control plane deployment on Kubernetes.
Day four covers monitoring Ceph with Prometheus, introducing Ceph metrics, the Ceph exporter, and the Grafana dashboard. Day five wraps up with advanced topics, including RADOS operations, security, Ceph troubleshooting, and day-two operations. By the end, attendees have the practical skills and architectural knowledge needed to operate sophisticated, containerized Ceph storage clusters across a range of cloud native environments.
Day one’s containerized storage architecture module builds on Kubernetes networking with Calico, giving attendees the pod-to-pod connectivity model needed before storage enters the picture. Day two moves from an introduction into architecture and scaling, and an administration module has attendees run day-to-day cluster commands. Helm coverage on day three goes beyond the basics into charts in depth, then splits into dedicated labs for OpenStack-Helm and Ceph-Helm, so attendees see how each project packages its own chart conventions. The monitoring day pairs Prometheus with Grafana dashboards and the Ceph-exporter to surface cluster health. The closing security module applies Keystone authentication before attendees troubleshoot simulated pod and node failures.
