GraphQL Introduction is an intensive one-day course that gives developers and testers a hands-on introduction to the GraphQL API query language. The course is organized into four modules, each built around an extensive lab, giving attendees the practical skills needed to design and implement effective APIs in GraphQL. Attendees start with GraphQL basics and how it compares to REST and other API styles.
From there, they write queries and mutations to read and modify data, then move into schema and type design along with best practices. The course closes with introspection and pagination. Upon completion, attendees have the skills needed to start designing and coding production GraphQL APIs in the language of their choice.
Module one frames GraphQL’s purpose and contrasts it directly with REST and other API styles before covering core basics such as fields, arguments, and the single endpoint model. Hands-on work follows immediately, having attendees write and execute queries and mutations while examining the mechanics behind each operation. The schemas and types module then walks through the type system in depth, showing how schema definitions shape which queries and mutations a server accepts, and surveying the object, scalar, and enum types available. A closing module builds practical instincts around introspection for exploring an API’s schema at runtime, alongside pagination strategies for returning large result sets efficiently. Labs are available in Python, NodeJS, Go, or Java, letting attendees practice in the language they use day to day.
