Introduction to React using JavaScript gives students practical, hands-on experience with the latest version of React over three days. Students also learn the tools used to build React applications. The course opens with modern JavaScript tooling and language features, including npm and Yarn package management and ES6 features such as classes, arrow functions, and modules. It then introduces React architecture, JSX, and the Virtual DOM.
From there, attendees build interactive interfaces with components, props, and events, then move into Hooks, state, and side effects using useState and useEffect. The course also covers conditional rendering, working with lists, and common component architecture patterns. Attendees then build and validate forms with controlled components, make HTTP calls to read and write data, and configure routing with React Router. The course closes with build and deployment practices for shipping a React application to production. By the end, developers have the skills they need to use React to build modern applications right away.
Tooling labs also cover Babel compiler setup and Create React App project scaffolding, giving students a working folder structure before they write a line of component code. ES6 coverage extends into template literals, destructuring, and object spread syntax alongside the classes and arrow functions already mentioned. On the React side, attendees compare class and function component lifecycles, apply keys correctly when rendering lists, and contrast container and presentation components as a reuse pattern. HTTP labs use both the Axios library and the native Fetch API to issue GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE requests against a live backend.
