JIRA is a seminar that gives technology professionals a fast-paced, one-day overview of the software project management system’s core and advanced capabilities. The day opens with a tour of the platform’s editions, contrasting Software, Core, and Service Desk. It then covers installation types and the add-on ecosystem that extends its functionality. That introduction pairs with common Agile terminology, including how epics group related stories and how stories break down into tasks and sub-tasks. It also covers the specific vocabulary the tool uses for each.
The second module turns hands-on, walking through core components and terms. Attendees then create and manage projects, working with issue types such as tasks, components, and sub-tasks. They also work with the workflows that define statuses and the transitions that move a card across a board. Attendees then explore Agile boards in depth, configuring Scrum and Kanban views and building filters. They also write queries with JQL to slice through swimlanes of work.
The course closes with project reporting, starting with setting clear reporting goals and analyzing existing burndown, velocity, and sprint charts. From there, attendees move into advanced reporting features such as the Portfolio add-on, multi-project views, roadmaps, and forecasting. These features include scenario planning that helps teams predict delivery dates with more confidence. Attendees leave with the practical knowledge needed to work effectively day to day.
