Kubernetes Networking gives Kubernetes operators a deeper look at networking within the platform over two hands-on days. Attendees build both concepts and practical skills across a range of CNI-based networking solutions. Day one covers core networking architecture, basic Pod networking, DNS, network policies, and Layer 2 solutions. Day two moves through Layer 3 routing, Layer 4 solutions like VXLAN, and next-generation eBPF-based CNI options. It weighs the pros and cons of each, then closes with network performance tuning and troubleshooting.

Labs anchor every module. Attendees provision a CNI-based cluster from scratch, then exercise built-in networking features. They also write and apply their own network policies to control traffic between workloads. The Layer 2 lab has them deploy a MACVLAN-based CNI plugin. The Layer 3 lab moves to BGP-based routing, and the Layer 4 lab works with VXLAN overlay networking. The eBPF lab introduces a next-generation CNI plugin that programs the Linux kernel directly for packet handling. The course closes with a tuning lab where students measure, adjust, and troubleshoot network performance under load. This reinforces how DNS and network policy work together to keep traffic secure and predictable.

Who Should Attend

K8s operators, Network engineers, IT and SRE Staff

What Attendees Will Learn

Upon completing Kubernetes Networking, attendees will be able to:

  • Explain Kubernetes networking architecture and provision CNI-based clusters
  • Configure Pod networking, Kubernetes DNS, and network policies
  • Deploy and work with Layer 2 (MACVLAN-based) CNI networking solutions
  • Deploy and work with Layer 3 (BGP-based) CNI networking solutions
  • Deploy and work with Layer 4 (VXLAN-based) CNI networking solutions
  • Deploy and work with next generation eBPF-based CNI networking solutions
  • Tune, test, and troubleshoot Kubernetes network performance

Prerequisites

RX-M “Containers Foundation” and “Kubernetes Foundation” courses or equivalent knowledge of Linux containers, Kubernetes, and basic command-line operations.

Delivery

Available for Instructor-Led (ILT) in-person/onsite training or Virtual Instructor-Led training (VILT) delivery.

Each attendee will require the ability to ssh into a cloud hosted virtual machine (provided with the course). In environments where SSH is not possible, local lab VMs or browser accessible lab systems can be provided. For web-based delivery, participants require an Internet-connected computer capable of teleconferencing.
